Paris Thursday 24 April, Day 1

Flew into Charles de Gaulle at a bit after 7 this morning. Despite having flat beds on the way over I got only a couple of hours sleep and as a consequence feeling a bit frazzled. I think about 7 hours is my limit on a plane.  Future trips will have to be planned with this in mind.

Caught the RER train in from the airport - shows how poor Melbourne has been at implementing necessary infrastructure. Trip in through gritty graffiti-ed decaying manufacturing belt no that different from the train trip through Footscray.

Got off at Luxembourg and walked to our hotel via the Luxemburg Gardens.  We are staying in the 6th Arrondissement which is just gorgeous in the Paris spring sunshine.  Lots of old book and print shops as well as clothes and little restaurants.  Here is Anne outside a shop called "Anne" - everything in the shop seemed blue or green and a snap at around 170 Euros a pop.

Had an expensive lunch down on Blvd San Germaine - we will find better options as soon as we've had some sleep and readjusted to the time zone.  We stumbled home via San Sulpice, an imposing old church with a dark and gloomy interior.  More winding streets of sandstone shops and apartments with balconies and shutters.  Time for a nap  ...
