Gifts reserved for age

One of the things that isn't the brochure for getting older is the way that a stray virus can knock you out for weeks and weeks. Anne brought a bug back from Port Fairy Literary Festival. Those literary bugs are particularly nasty. I was feeling quite smug until it finally got the better of my immune system. Almost 4 weeks later I was wondering if it would ever go away, but after a good night's sleep last night I woke up this morning actually feeling like doing something. It has been so long I was extra conscious of how precious that is, and all the more grateful for it.

I walked "Barca" down to the launch spot, and Oz and I rowed the not very great distance across to the beach in front of the kiosk.  Strictly "No vessels" ... but somehow Barca with her light weight and top speed of 2 knots and high maneuverability , seems more like a beach toy than a vessel.  No one seemed to mind, indeed, we definitely made a contribution to the general good humour of the morning. Little children had to run up to inspect the boat, one ancient lady got wheeled down in her wheel chair to be photographed in front of her, and a nice woman who came over for a chat and to take some pictures told me we reminded her of Bass and Flinders in Tom Thumb.

After a coffee with Anne I rowed very carefully out dodging the various swimmers by the widest possible margin, rowed back into the chop to the launch spot, loaded up and walked home. A great morning!
